Over the last couple years I have been doing a mini-project of photographing historic neon street signs around various neighborhoods in San Diego. Of all the signs to photograph, one of the most obvious would be the one in my own backyard in the South Bay of San Diego.

I have photographed the "Third Avenue" neon sign in Chula Vista many times, but was never satisfied with the compositions because it was a little difficult to stand in the middle of the street at night with the risk of losing my gear and my life!

Recently, the city of Chula Vista renovated historic Third Avenue in downtown, so that now the street includes a very wide island...perfect for photographers like me to stand in. Maybe the city finally heard me after all these years of complaining!
